Notebook Hygiene for Junior Triage Analysts
Ivo Marin · 2025-09-30
Junior analysts often capture everything when adrenaline spikes. That abundance slows mentorship because reviewers cannot find decisions, only noise.
We standardize four notebook prompts: observed artifact, hypothesis, test performed, and explicit unknown. The last field is mandatory—mentors intervene faster when uncertainty is visible.
Second, we rotate anonymized excerpts in class so participants learn tone, not just technique. Seeing another learner mark “unknown” without embarrassment signals cultural permission.
Third, we close each week with a five-line executive blurbs exercise. Distilling complexity trains analysts to respect stakeholders who only have minutes, not hours.
